groceries, flowers, tutoring, welding

Yesterday Sept 26, 2008 I spent 3/4 of one Hour buying food at Glut. My bills were somewhat crumpled-looking. They don't hold up as well as the US greenback - the paper isn't as durable. Sometimes when I take change from Glut in the form of Hours, the woman at the counter makes it a point to hand out the most raggedy-looking ones in the register. Maybe at the next AH board meeting we could raise the possibility of retiring worn out bills.

Also AH needs to have some kind of dispenser that will hold AH brochures and directories, attached to the bulletin board or the wall at Glut. I spoke to Chris about this a while ago, and he OK'd the idea.

Ligia Williams has used Hours recently to buy flowers at Oscar's Flowers, and she has accepted Hours in payment for tutoring Oscar Molano's son, Oscitar.

Ligia W also paid in Hours for welding services. Jodi-beth McCain arranged for Miguel to repair Ligia's broken lamp. They are in the directory under Welding.

Fixing a bike for Hours

Hi All,

I fixed my brother Timmy Park's bike for 2 Anacostia Hours. I have used Hours for partial payment at Artmosphere Cafe, Glut, and Francis Restaurant.

Peace Programs

Greetings :

I run Peace Programs and Peace Camps and have offered that partial payment can be in Anacostia
Hours . I had a family use them for partial payment this summer for a peace camp. It was fun to be peace builders in action and partners in peace building as we exchange services.

I look forward to exchanging Hours with others.

Peace

Invitations

I have just invited all of the members who have listed an email address to this blog so that they can blog. Once someone joins, I will grant them admin privileges so they can invite other Anacostia Hours users they interact or transact with the post on this blog!

Today's Meeting

Today we had a meeting, a retreat at Magruder Park. It went well. One of the outcomes for me is that Anacostia Hours is not just currency, but a conversation revolving around the currency. Why we use Anacostia Hours--to keep money from going to war, to keep money local, to foster community, to encourage local transactions and reliance on each other. The truth of Anacostia Hours is manifested in the transactions that occur, and that truth comes out in the stories of how Anacostia Hours have been used in local transactions of neighbors giving and receiving local services. On this blog, we encourage you to share your experiences of using Anacostia Hours so we can all see how the Hours are working and what goods and services are being exchanged! Blog away!
